statice (Limonium Sinuatum American Beauty) - An old-fashioned favorite, Statice, is easily propagated from flower seeds. Gardeners value this annual as a cut flower. This rose Limonium Statice is easy to grow in full sun and it is not picky about soil type as long as the soil drains well. Statice plants are superb for the border or bed, and they are indispensable for the cutting garden! Limonium flowers are dense, papery and simply cover the uniform 32 inch plants all summer long, leaving you with the problem of whether to cut it at first bloom for dried use or let it reveal its full glory in the summer sun!
How To Dry Statice: To dry, simply cut the stem at desired height (or cut the entire plant at the base), remove the foliage, and hang the branch upside-down in a dry, well-ventilated place such as an attic. Statice is a prized everlasting, truly deserving of the name since it holds its rich color for years when dried.
How To Grow Statice From Seed: Sow Statice seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before frost season ends. Press the Statice flower seeds into the soil and lightly sprinkle with peat moss. The flower seeds must be kept moist but not wet until germination occurs. Or, you can directly sow Limonium seeds into prepared seed beds after all danger of frost has passed. Sow the seeds in groups of 3 - 4 spaced 16 - 20 inches apart. Thin to the strongest Statice seedling. Once established, Statice plants are fairly drought tolerant. They thrive in a hot, sunny location.
