Wisley - nicely formed, showy flower with terrific garden potential; elegant and strong; 10"-12"; early-mid spring.

Daffodils are the most cost effective, pest-free perennial plants available and make wonderful companions with other bulbs, perennials, annuals and flowering shrubs. They grow in almost all areas of the United States as long as there is a discernible winter. They are pest-free and when given ample sunlight, water and proper nutrition, will provide early spring color for many years. They are divided into 13 divisions according to their flower shape and heritage. Daffodils should be planted in full sun or at least half day (8 hours) of sunlight after the leaves are on the trees and should be planted 3 X the height of their bulb deep (3"-8"). The ADS defines DIVISION 6 - CYCLAMINEUS as: "One flower to a stem; perianth segments significantly reflexed; flower at an acute angle to the stem, with a very short pedicel or neck". With their faces looking like they are standing in front of a fan, they look and perform wonderfully in pots and are terrific for forcing. They seem to be more tolerant to partial shade and moisture as a group; 4-5 per sq. ft.; whz 4-9. Bulbs are 12/14cm unless otherwise noted.
Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. Daffodil bulbs should be planted outdoors in October and November, with the pointed end facing upwards, at a depth of approximately 10cm (4"). Choose a sunny or semi shaded position in moist, free draining soil. Daffodils look particularly eye-catching when grown in drifts in borders or informal areas of grass. Cast the bulbs across the area and plant them where they land for a really natural effect.
For an attractive indoor display, plant Daffodils in containers in bulb fibre and position them in a cool garage or other well ventilated, dark position at a maximum temperature of 10°C. Water when necessary to keep the compost moist. When the growing shoots reach a height of 10 cm (4") move the containers to a cool bright position indoors (approximately 16°C).
