Russian Sage Seeds
Russian Sage is a vigorous, hardy, heat loving, drought tolerant blue-flowered perennial that makes a big show in the garden. A great companion plant to ornamental grasses. (Perovskia atriplicifolia)
Zones 4 - 9
Branching sprays of small summer flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds, create a marvelous lavender-blue haze July to September. The Silvery leaves are finely cut, and wonderfully aromatic.
Russian Sage is one of the great garden plants of all time, but if you've been frustrated by their floppy nature or if you've got a smaller spot to fill, this new variety will be a welcome addition.
Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Taiga' is the first Russian sage available as a first year flowering perennial. Growing only to about 60 to 75cm (24 to 30in) tall and about as wide, the well behaved flower spikes grow upright and do not fall over.

Taiga Russian Sage needs moderate to little water. Performs well in hot, humid climates. It is a more upright growing, less likely to flop selection. Grows 2-3 ft. tall in short season climates, and up to 5 ft. tall in mild climates. Blooms the first year when started early. Taiga Russian sage is winter hardy to zone 5.
Plant Russian Sage Seeds: Sow seeds in cell packs or or 2 in. pots, press into soil and barely cover. Kept at 65-72° F., germination occurs in 7-21 days. Transplant into the garden 16-24 in. apart for Blue Steel, and 24-36 in. apart for Taiga.
Grow Russian Sage:: Full sun, tolerates extreme heat and drought. Thrives in any soil with good drainage. Will flower the first year when started early. Plants are deer resistant. Flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Russian Sage looks stunning when combined with white flowering plants.
